Tangalooma EcoMarines offers a secondary school program for schools based in Southeast Queensland which focuses on the environmental and cultural significance of our local environment.
Each school appoints an EcoMarines teacher and four to eight student ambassadors to lead various environmental activities or 'challenges’ to help conserve our ecosystems.
We provide challenge ideas and resources to inspire the ambassadors to run engaging initiatives within the school and community.
There are also many opportunities for ambassadors and teachers to attend events and network with other schools and community members.
To learn more about the great efforts of our schools in 2019, you can download a copy of our 2019 yearbook below.
"Through participation in this program I have seen my students grow both socially and academically and engage with the world around them. They have become environmentally aware, socially responsible and have grown in confidence. I would highly recommend this program to other schools."
Dawn Clark, Teacher at Park Lake State School
HOW IT WORKS
1. BOOK AN APPOINTMENT
Please contact us if you would like more information. We can arrange a 30 minute presentation to anyone interested in EcoMarines.
2. APPOINT ECOMARINES TEACHER
Each schools has at least one teacher who is passionate about the environment and supports the EcoMarines ambassadors.
The EcoMarines teacher/s usually hold weekly meetings with the ambassadors and support crew students to help organise initiatives, challenges and events.
3. APPOINT ECOMARINES AMBASSADORS
Appoint 4 - 8 students who are passionate about the environment and want to make a difference!
These can be students from any grades. It works differently in many schools, we can help you decide what is right for you. So don't worry, we will support you through this process when the time comes.
4. SCHOOL VISIT & SUPPORT CREW
Once the ambassadors are appointed, we will announce them at assembly with their shirts and explain to the school how the EcoMarines program works.
NOTE: Although there are only 4 ambassadors, most schools include other interested students as 'support crew' who attend the weekly meetings and help run activities in the school.
5. ONLINE KIT
You will be given access to a kit full of ideas, challenges and resources you can use (posters, certificates, videos, etc.
Challenges include: Power of the Port excursion, EcoMarines Event Stall and Waste Warriors art competition!
