THE 3 P'S WORLD TOILET DAY CHALLENGE
World Toilet Day is on Thursday 19th November in 2020! This day is all about raising awareness on good sanitation and waste water practices. On this day, it is important to acknowledge those who do not have access to sanitation, but we also aim to ensure we use the sanitation systems that we have properly and in a way that benefits our environment. 4.5 billion people live life without a safe toilet, so let's make sure we look after ours!
Our focus for World Toilet Day is the 3 P's: Pee, Poo and Paper. These are the only 3 things that should be flushed down the toilet. It is important to share this message as flushing anything else can cause poor water quality, blocked drains and ruin our environments. So, get your Early Learning Centre involved in this challenge and take part in the competition thanks to Urban Utilities.
The winning centre will receive a visit from the Urban Utilities Poo Car!
HOW IT WORKS
On November the 19th, explain World Toilet Day to the kids in your centre! Start by showing children these fantastic videos all about the 3 P's!
Play the 'What's a No. 3?' game with your class! This is an online game that will help to test their knowledge on what items can and cannot be flushed down the toilet.
We also have a printable version of the game so you can play in your class room!
You can also use the 'Don't Flush That' App! The special game challenges you to race the clock to bin the un-flushable items and only flush the three P’s!
After you have played the game, it's time to have a discussion with your centre about what they have learnt! Here are some questions you can ask them:
What are the 3 P's?
Why is it important to only flush the 3 P's down the toilet?
What happens if we flush other items down the toilet?
What can you do at home to make sure the 3 P's are only flushed down the toilet?
Collect all your centres' ideas and answers together! Now is the time to get creative and think of a fun way to share with us why it is important to know the 3 P's!
Here are some creative ways:
An information poster
An interview video where your kids share their answers
Make sure to send us your centre's submissions by Friday 20th November 20th. Your centre will go in the draw to win a visit from Urban Utilities very own Poo Powered Car!
