CAMPAIGN IDEAS

LITTER AND WASTE REDUCTION

  • 80-95% of the litter found on beaches comes from suburbia!

  • Every year, households spend an average of $1,266 on items they wont use.

  • 1 billion single-use plastic bottles are purchased in Australia every year.

  • 6000 kg's of clothes are wasted every hour!

This campaign will encourage your peers to keep your school clean and litter free! 

WASTE RECOVERY AND RECYCLING 

Recovering waste gives items a second life. Your school could work together to make this happen!

  • Only 20% of plastic bottles are recycled! 

  • Plastic packaging can take up to 500 years to disappear. 

  • 1 million sea animals can die from waste in the ocean. 

  • Recycling can significantly reduce the amount of waste in landfills - Australians have increased their recycling from 15% to 95% in the last 20 years! 

SAVING WATER AND ENERGY

Do you notice excess water use in your school? Do you notice inefficient energy use in your school?

  • Only 2.5% of all water in the world is freshwater. Water is therefore a limited resource!

  • Water contamination is a problem as more than 85% of households contribute to water pollution.

  • 63% of Australia's generated electricity comes from coal and only 16% comes from renewable sources such as solar power.

PROJECT, CHALLENGES AND EVENT IDEAS

SPREAD THE WORD!

  • Add a feature in your school newsletter or write in your local Quest Community paper.

  • Hold a screening of 'A Plastic Ocean', email us to loan a copy!

  • Make a fun and educational assembly presentation about a key message! For example, recycling or picking up litter! 

  • Get creative and have fun with it! Create posters, art work, or write on notice boards.

ECO EVENTS! 

  • Throw an Eco-Friendly Event to spread awareness about EcoMarines and the change you're creating. 

  • Join our Go Green for EcoMarines Week and organise a dress up!

  • Hold a recycling trivia to teach people more about how to recycle... Contact your local council for information.

  • Run a series of recycling missions for textiles, e-waste, soft plastics etc. Check out our Special Recycling page for more info!

  • Arrange for your whole school to learn from traditional custodians.

  • Recruit a Clean-Up Club or even take part in Planet Ark Tree Day

PROJECTS FOR THE PLANET!

  • Encourage your school to switch to install solar panels, and/or switch to environmentally friendly light bulbs. 

  • Conduct an audit on a topics of your choice (e.g. waste and recycling, energy, or water). Share the findings with your school! This is a great way to make your peers part of the solution! You can present some options of the best way to tackle this problem!

  • Help your school be recycling pro's with our special recycling tips and tricks!

CREATE YOUR OWN
